Master P Ice Cream Man Turns 30 Years Old

We all know that No Limit Records became one of the biggest record labels of all time. Master P built the label from the ground up. Master P used to hustle his CDs out of the trunk after releasing his first album in 1991. Get Away Clean was the name of the project. A few months later, Master P released his second album called Mama’s Bad Boy. Master P dropped two projects in a span of seven months. Master P took almost a couple of years before releasing his third album. The Ghettos Tryin to Kill Me was the name of the project, and it was distributed on Priority Records. With this album, Master P started to get some recognition in the hip-hop community. 99 Ways to Die would be his fourth album, and it dropped almost a year later.

A little over a year later, Master P finally broke through with his Ice Cream Man album. Ice Cream Man turns 30 years old, and it became his breakthrough album. Master P’s fifth album became his first album to go platinum. The year prior, No Limit Records released five other albums besides 99 Ways to Die. Down South Hustlers: Bouncin’ and Swingin’ was a double album that put them on the map. Playaz from the South with UGK was a success in the South, and it began their reign. Ice Cream Man peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart and No. 26 on the Billboard. Mr. Ice Cream Man was the first single from the album, and it’s a southern classic. Mr. Ice Cream Man featured Silkk the Shocker, Mia X, and Mo B. Dick.

Bout It Bout It II became the second single, and it was another classic from the Ice Cream Man project. No More Tears would be the final single from the album. No More Tears was another great record off the album. The Ice Cream Man started an unprecedented run by No Limit Records, and one of the albums that should be in your collection. I’ve stated that No Limit Records is one of my favorite labels of all time. They had a three-year run where they released at least one album every month. Ice Cream Man is a Southern classic and one that has lasted the test of time. Check out my top 5 tracks from the Ice Cream Man album below. After that, check out the track listing and stream link.
