Geto Boys The Resurrection Turns 25 Year Old

Geto Boys The Resurrection Turns 25 Year Old

Geto Boys is one of the greatest hip hop groups of all time. They were pioneers from Houston and help put the South on the map. Scarface, Bushwick Bill, and Willie D made up the Geto Boys as we know them. The Geto Boys released their debut album back in 1988. Making Trouble was the name of the album and the group was much different from the one we know. The group originally consisted of Bushwick Bill, DJ Ready Red, Sire Jukebox and Prince Johnny C. Following the release of Making Trouble, Sire Jukebox and Johnny C were dropped and added Scarface and Willie D. Making Trouble received negative feedback and didn’t make any noise. The following year, the new and improved Geto Boys released their second album. Grip It! On that Other Level was the name of the album and the project was praised.

The following year they released a remix album titled The Geto Boys. The album features a song from Making Trouble, ten from the Grip It joint and two new songs. Less than a year later, the group returned with their controversial third album. We Can’t Be Stopped was the name of the album and it became their most successful project. The album cover is a graphic picture of member Bushwick Bill in the hospital. Bill was shot in the eye as he and his girlfriend tussled over a gun. Mind Playing Tricks on Me became their signature track and is one of the greatest hip hop records ever. The Geto Boys released Uncut Dope the following year and it was a compilation project. The album contained two previously unreleased songs. In March of 1993, the Geto Boys looked different as they dropped their fourth album, Till Death Do Us Part.

Willie D left the group to pursue a solo career, and he was replaced by label mate Big Mike. Till Death Do Us Part went gold and it’s my favorite project from the Geto Boys. The Geto Boys took three years off, but they reunited for their fifth album. The Resurrection was the name of the album, and it turns 25 years old today. Geto Boys The Resurrection went gold, and one official was released from the project. It became their first charting single with the three of them together since Mind Playing Tricks on Me. The Resurrection is a classic project and has been praised ever since its release. Peep my top 5 tracks from the Resurrection album. After that, check out the track listing and stream link to the album. Bushwick Bill passed away back in June of 2019.
