Anthony Hamilton released his first project 2003 in about seven years. In 1996, Hamilton attempted to released his debut album called XTC. After the promotional release of “I Wanna Be with You” b/w “Total XTC” in 1997, the album was eventually shelved. In September of 2003, Anthony Hamilton dropped his Comin’ from Where I’m From project. The album titled was the first single from the album and it went on to go gold. It was nominated for two Grammy Awards in 2004: “Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance” and “Best R&B Song”. Charlene was the second single from the album and it’s my featured Throwback Thursday track for the week. Charlene received a lot of praised after its release and was nominated for many awards. Anthony Hamilton got his first Grammy nomination for Best R/B song for “Charlene” and Best contemporary R/B album. Charlene would go double platinum as a single.
Comin’ from Where I’m From became popular in the US it went top 20 and Platinum-Certified; it also received some “Grammy Award” nominations. Rather You Than Me from Rick Ross, Hunger for More by Lloyd Banks and the new J. Cole were played. Speaking of music, we had three classic albums celebrate their 30th anniversary of their releases. 2Pac All Eyez on Me, Fugees The Score, and Total’s debut album dropped 30 years ago on the same day. The NBA celebrated All-Star weekend took place and it was praised by many. The only event that received negative remarks was the Slam Dunk contest. The All-Star game format was amazing, and it was a breath of fresh air. Chris Paul officially retired from the league after being traded to Toronto and released. Dawson’s Creek Star, James Van Der Beek passed away after a long bout with cancer.
Speaking of tragedies, Civil Right icon Jesse Jackson passed away at the age of 84.
