It feels like we haven’t had football for a very long time now. A little over a week ago, we had the conference championships. In the AFC, the New England Patriots went to Denver and beat the Broncos in a defensive battle. The snow covered the field by the mid-way point of the third quarter and neither team could score. The Patriots won the game 10-7 and are back in the Super Bowl. The NFC Championship saw the Seattle Seahawks take advantage of having home-field advantage and defeat their NFC West rival, the Rams. Seattle took down Los Angeles for the second time in three games this season, 31-27. Seattle will take on the New England Patriots in a matchup that was predicted for Super Bowl LX. Will this be an instant classic like a couple of years ago? Or will we see a blowout in the Super Bowl again?
Offense
Like any big game, this one will come down to quarterback play. Drake Maye will either win league MVP or he’ll be the runner-up. The Patriots offense finished the season ranked 2nd in scoring with almost 29 points per game. In the playoffs, that averaged have dropped a lot, seeing they’re putting up 18 points a game. New England faced three of the best defenses in the league and a snowstorm. Can the offense rebound against another top defense? Seattle finished behind the Patriots in scoring, as the Seahawks finished 3rd in scoring. New England finished top 6 in rushing and passing. Seattle was in the top 10 in passing and rushing. In the two wins by Seattle, they scored 72 points in those two games. Sam Darnold showed what he’s capable of doing in the NFC Championship game. I’m rolling with Seattle on the offensive side. Advantage: Seattle
Defense
Both defenses come into Super Bowl LX ranked top 5 in scoring. Seattle ranked first in scoring by giving up a little over 17 points per game. The Patriots finished fourth in scoring with a shade under 19 points per game. While the Patriots offense has struggled, the defense is giving up fewer than nine points in the playoffs. Seattle has pretty much bullied every opposing offense except the Los Angeles Rams. Both defenses can apply pressure on opposing quarterbacks and are great in the secondary. Can the Patriots defense slow down Jaxon Smith-Njigba? On the flipside, will the Seattle defense be able to slow down the Patriots run game? Drake Maye is a big part of the Patriots run offense, seeing that he’s great with his legs. Kenneth Walker III looked great throughout this playoff run, but how much did not having Zach Carbonnet hurt them? Advantage: Seattle
Who’s Winning Super Bowl LX?
On paper, these two teams are evenly matched on both sides of the ball. Drake Maye has had the better regular season, and Sam Darnold has had the postseason. The defenses have dominated outside of the Seahawks win over the Los Angeles Rams. In three of the Patriots postseason wins, the opposing offense was at a disadvantage. Houston had key injuries on offense and Bo Nix missed the AFC Championship game due to a broken ankle. In the Divisional Round, Seattle manhandled a depleted 49ers team that lost George Kittle the previous game. It’s crazy to think I had Seattle finishing last in the NFC West this season. New England finished with a 4-13 record a season ago, and now they’re in the Super Bowl. Whoever wins this game will be a Cinderella story. In the end, I’m picking the Seattle Seahawks to win Super Bowl LX. Winner: Seattle Seahawks 31-17
