Welcome to another week as we get closer to the end of January already. My featured album is Deborah Cox, and her second album is called One Wish. One Wish was the follow-up to her debut, self-titled project she released three years prior. Despite dropping three years later, the album also went platinum and garnered a few nominations. Cox was nominated for three Juno Awards for the album. She also won Best R&B Soul Recording for “Things Just Ain’t the Same” in 1998 and Best R&B Soul Recording for One Wish in 1999. Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here also won a Soul Train Music Awards for Best Female R&B/Soul Single. The track also won a Soul Train Lady of Soul Award for Best R&B/Soul Song of the Year. Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here is my featured Throwback Thursday track for the week.
My playlist this week consisted of the new albums from Raekwon and Nas with DJ Premier. Polo G Die a Legend, Run the Jewels 2, and 2Pac Better Dayz also made the list. A week ago, DJ Quick celebrated the 35th anniversary of the release of his debut album, Quik is the Name. T.I. shocked the world by cutting his hair and announcing a new single in the process. Speaking of new music, J. Cole dropped a new single from “The Fall-Off” album as it’s set to drop on February 6th. In the sports world, we saw the Indiana Hoosiers complete a perfect season by defeating Miami for their first championship. The AFC and NFC Championship take place on Sunday. The Denver Broncos host the New England Patriots in the AFC. In the NFC, the Seattle Seahawks host the Los Angeles Rams to see who advance to the Super Bowl.
Despite being three weeks away from the Super Bowl, there has been a lot of news around the league. Sean McDermott was the latest coach to be fired after being let go by the Buffalo Bills. John Harbaugh is the new coach for the New York Giants. Kevin Stefanski is now in the Atlanta and Robert Saleh went to the Tennessee Titans. Bo Nix suffered a broken ankle in the finale of their Divisional Round win over Buffalo. Nix had surgery and will miss the remainder of the season as Denver turns to Jarrett Stidham. In the NBA world, Jimmy Butler tore his ACL and will miss the rest of the season for the Warriors. Check out the video for Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here by Deborah Cox above.
