It’s that time of week where we highlight the featured track of the week. Last week, Fabolous and his classic record Breathe was the choice. In October of 2003, Ludacris released his double platinum Chicken-N-Beer album. A little over a year later, Ludacris hit us with his fifth studio album called The Red Light District. The album was supported with four singles: “Get Back”, “Number One Spot”, “The Potion” and “Pimpin’ All Over the World”. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 album chart with 322,000 copies sold in its first week. Number One Spot is my featured Throwback Thursday track of the week. The music video features spoofs of scenes from the Austin Powers films. Ludacris taking the roles of Austin Powers, Fat Bastard, Goldmember and Dr. Evil. The video also features Lisa Raye and Verne Troyer, who plays Mini-Me in the film franchise.
Quincy Jones, Slick Rick, Katt Williams and DJ Green Lantern also make appearances in the music video. The subsequent single entitled “The Potion” was the conclusion to the music video (lasting approximately 45 seconds). The video won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Rap Video in 2005. The song was nominated for Best Rap Solo Performance at the Grammy Awards of 2006. Number One Spot went on to go gold, meaning it sold over 500,000 copies. My playlist for the week consisted of Shell Shocked from Mac and Menace II Society Soundtrack. R. Kelly 12 Play, Encore from Eminem, and the new Chris Brown album were played. Check out the video for Number One Spot above. Below you can check out the track listing and stream link for the Red Light District album.
