March Madness is by far my favorite sporting event of the year. The unpredictable nature of March Madness is what makes it great. I’ve been a fan for years and some of my favorite teams are from my younger days. The Michigan Wolverines, Arizona Wildcats, UConn Huskies, and Illinois Fighting Illini are the teams in the Final Four. Michigan jumped on Tennessee early and blew them out 95-62 to advance. The Arizona Wildcats used their physical defense to slow down Purdue in the second half and won 79-64. Illinois stingy defense smothered Iowa in the 2nd half on their way to a 71-59 win. In the game of the weekend, UConn erased a 19-point deficit to defeat Duke 73-72. Braylon Mullins hit an incredible game-winner to send UConn to the Final Four. UConn will meet Illinois and Michigan takes on Arizona with the winners meeting in the championship game.
The 3rd seeded Illinois Fighting Illini will battle the 2nd seed UConn Huskies in the first semifinal game. The Fighting Illini have cruised through their opponents on their way to the Final Four. They have beaten all their opponents by double figures. Keaton Wagler is one of the best players in the country and a potential lottery pick. Can he guide the Fighting Illini to the championship game? Will their size help propel them past UConn? We all know how the UConn Huskies advanced to the Final Four. All their games in the tournament, but one was in single digits. The Huskies are looking to hoist their third championship in four years. UConn won back-to-back championships in 2023 and 2024. How will Tarris Reed Jr. handle the size of the Illinois big men? This will be an exciting game and I’m picking the Illini to advance to the title game.
Illinois Win 71-67
This is the heavyweight matchup we were anticipating as the Michigan Wolverines battle the Arizona Wildcats. The Wolverines came into this tournament as one of the favorites to cut down the nets. The closest anyone has gotten to Michigan was their 13-point win over Alabama. Yaxel Lendeborg is a potential Player of the Year and is coming off a dominating performance in the Elite 8. Michigan is a team with a lot of size also, but how will they fare against Arizona? Arizona has also dominated the tournament also. They defeated Utah State by 12 points to advance to the Sweet 16. Just like Michigan, the Wildcats were many people’s favorites to cut down the nets. These two teams are evenly matched up and have a combined five defeats. This feels like one of those fast-paced and high scoring games and I’m picking the Wolverines to win.
Michigan Win 92-88
