AZ released his first album called Doe or Die back in 1995. He appeared on the iconic Illmatic album from Nas the year prior. AZ’s verse on Life’s a Bitch has been called one of the best and he turned that into a record deal. In his 30-plus year career, AZ has released a total of 10 studio albums. AZ dropped his 10th album, Doe or Die III on May 8th of 2026. Upon release, Doe or Die achieved notable critical and commercial success. The album peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200, and No. 1 on the U.S. Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. Mo Money Mo Murder, Gimme Your (Remix), Doe or Die, and Sugar Hill were singles released from the album. The album went on to sell over a million copies. Sugar Hill is my featured Throwback Thursday track of the week.
The single peaked at number 25 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Sugar Hill is still AZ’s highest charted single to date. Miss Jones sang the chorus and provided backing vocals. Sugar Hill went on to sell over 500,000 copies, making it his only gold single. Doe or Die helped push the mafioso style like Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, It Was Written and Reasonable Doubt. Check out the video for Sugar Hill above. Below you can check out the track listing and stream links for Doe or Die and Doe or Die III.
